Bolton Council has selected Willmott Dixon to deliver its £4.5m Bolton Market refurbishment scheme.

Work starts this month and the refurbishment should finish before the end of the year. Work to the car park and servicing area will finish in 2014.

Bolton Market opened in the 1930s and is one of Britain’s oldest food markets.

The design team for the refurbishment project is led by architect Davis Wetherill Partnerships, who has recently completed the refurbishment of the Grade II listed Accrington Market Hall for Lancashire County Council.

Willmott Dixon regional managing director Anthony Dillon said: “We will be working closely with Bolton Council to ensure we maximize the local economic benefit through engagement with local subcontractors, suppliers, and the employment of local labour.”
