Wates Construction has been awarded a £12.5m contract to extend the Intu Potteries Shopping Centre in Stoke-on-Trent.
The 58,000 sq ft extension will house a £20m cinema and leisure complex.
Construction is scheduled for completion by spring 2015, which will be followed by additional refurbishment and fit-out works ahead of scheduled opening in the summer.
Wates Construction Midlands and North managing director Phil Harrison said: “There has been a recent resurgence in the development of Stoke-on-Trent and Intu’s investment will not only become a catalyst for further growth but will also serve to enhance the shopping and leisure experience in the city centre.
“We are huge advocates of making sure that our work brings with it a much-needed boost to the region’s economy and we have already begun the process of engaging local suppliers and sub-contractors in the work.”
