Stannah renews Network Rail contract

Lift specialist Stannah has renewed its maintenance contract with Network Rail for another 10 years in a deal worth £35m.

Stannah has looked after all of Network Rail’s lifts since 1995. The contract was last renewed in 2004. There are presently 950 lifts under the contract but this is forecast to grow significantly within the contract period to 2024 as Network Rail continues to invest heavily in station upgrades and move towards step-free access for all.

In a separate rail sector deal, Stannah has also won a programme of lift modernisation for Docklands Light Railway (DLR), part of Transport for London. This contract will see the replacement of 20 lift cars with new, energy-saving equipment and 29 replacements of lift doors on landings and lift cars. This £675,000 contract will take 18 months to complete.

Jon Stannah, joint managing director of Stannah Lift Services, said: “Our work within the rail sector has grown significantly in the last 10 years. Our renewed contract with Network Rail and a further contract with DLR will mean our engineers will be working day and night, in order to prevent downtime for the thousands of railway travellers across the network every day.”

Stannah, established in 1867, remains family owned and managed.
