BAM Construction has been chosen as the main contractor to refurbish the Old Admiralty Building in London for the Department for Education.
The Department for Education (DfE) is due to move into the Grade II listed Old Admiralty Building in Horseguards Parade in 2017 as part of the government’s property rationalisation drive.
DfE has selected BAM as main contractor for a £45m refurbishment to make the building suitable for its new tenants.
A planning application has been submitted to Westminster City Council ahead of the proposed refurbishment, due to begin in November 2015. The DfE and the Government Property Unit are in talks with the council and Historic England about the necessary internal changes to ensure the building is fit to accommodate 1,600 DfE staff.
Mace is providing project management, CDM, cost consultancy and full multi-disciplinary design services under a £3.5m contract. BDP is lead designer and M&E consultant is Hoare Lea.
