HS2 Ltd has recruited Stuart Westgate to be programme development director (internal sponsor).

Stuart Westgate was a director of Crossrail for two years, responsible for the mainline elements of the cross-London rail scheme, until joining KPMG in 2011. Since then he has been KPMG’s director of major projects advisory.

At HS2 he will lead development of the new north-south rail line, reporting to CEO Simon Kirby, who said: “Stuart has a proven track record of leading innovative, ambitious and complex projects and is exactly the type of person we want at HS2 as we continue to move toward the construction of the railway. We are committed to delivering a world class railway and that means having the highest calibre people working on the project. Stuart certainly falls into that category.”

Before Crossrail, Mr Westgate’s previous jobs include principal sponsor in the government’s UK Roads Programme; deputy director for London Underground’s ‘Cooling the Tube’ programme and programme manager for the Strategic Rail Authority for the integration of HS1 and Thameslink at St Pancras.
