Structural steelwork contractor William Hare has acquired Eiffel Steelworks from its administrators.

Wigan-based Eiffel Steelworks was placed in administration on 17th November. Joint administrators Matthew Dunham and Adam Stephens of accountants Smith & Williamson kept the business open to fulfil existing orders and maintain the 60-strong workforce while a buyer was sought.

The acquisition by the privately-owned and family-run William Hare Group, based nearby in Bury, will complement its operations across Lancashire and Yorkshire providing fabrication, plating and welding of structural steelwork.

Eiffel’s facility in Ince, just outside of Wigan, has capacity to produce 10,000 tonnes of fabricated steel a year. Current orders include providing structural steel for the conversion of the Olympic Stadium into the new home of West Ham United football club.

Joint administrator Matthew Dunham said: “The decision to keep trading and so maintain the order book has made the business more attractive to potential buyers.  We received interest from a number of parties and are delighted to have achieved this sale.”
