Sir Robert McAlpine to build Aberdeen’s £65m Silver Fin

Sir Robert McAlpine has been handed a contract to build an office block in central Aberdeen.

Construction work on the £65m Silver Fin building in Union Street, Aberdeen is set to start imminently following confirmation of McAlpine as the contractor.

The nine-storey development will provide 132,000 square feet of office space. It is beign developed speculatively by Titan Investors, which assembled the site from four different owners.

The design has been developed by Cooper Cromar Architects and is expected to play a pivotal role in the redevelopment of the western end of Union Street, which is Aberdeen’s key civic thoroughfare.

Planning consent was awarded in 2014 and completion is expected by March 2017.

The project manager is Platform; structural engineer is Ramsay & Chalmers; building services engineer is Wallace Whittle; and quantity surveyor is Gardiner & Theobold.
