Wates boost order book with education

Wates Construction, has been awarded a £12m contract to build a brand new secondary school on Fenby Avenue in Bradford.

Appointed by Integrated Bradford LEP Ltd, Wates will now deliver a 7,700 sq m seven-form entry facility with a capacity for 1,050 students aged 11 to 16 years. The school is set to be named Grace Academy and will be sponsored by the Bradford Diocesan Academy Trust (BDAT).

Designed by CPMG Architects, the new building will utilise Wates’ Adapt Schools Solutions model, which has been innovatively designed to deliver high quality, flexible and cost effective school buildings.

Construction on the project will commence in April this year, with completion scheduled for summer 2015. Alongside the main school, Wates will also build an indoor sports facility with a four-court multipurpose hall that will also be available for community use.

Wates’ presence in Bradford has also seen the contractor deliver the new £29m Dixons Allerton Academy building on Rhodesway in Allerton, which reached completion ahead of the new academic year last September.

David Price, Business Unit Director, Wates Construction, Yorkshire, commented: “Our appointment as main contractor for this new facility will see the Wates team continue our role in creating state-of-the-art school buildings for the young people of Bradford. Wates’ Adapt model has been developed over the past two years and will enable us to deliver on the individual needs of the new school in Fenby, whilst bringing true value for money throughout the project.”

The Archdeacon of Bradford, the Venerable Dr David Lee, Chair of the Bradford Diocesan Academy Trust said: “We look forward to opening Grace Academy in September 2015”
