Warwick University tenders £92m automotive campus

The University of Warwick is inviting tenders for a major new campus that will focus on innovation in the automotive sector.

The National Automotive Innovation Campus is funded by the government, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC).

The project value has previously been put at £92m, though the tender notice gives a range of £70m to £130m.

JLR and TMETC will work closely with the university’s Warwick Manufacturing Group and envisage a 10 times return on investment through increased value added from exploitation of research outputs in new and improved products, processes and services.

NAIC is intended to create and develop novel technologies to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and to reduce CO2 emissions. It is also intended to develop a stronger supplier base in the UK and address a shortage of skilled R&D staff in the automotive supply chain.

This initiative aligns with creation of the WMG Academy, which will be providing vocationally focused education for 14 to 19 year olds seeking a career in engineering and technology.

Potential bidders have until 14 March to submit their tenders. The University's tender site is at https://in-tendhost.co.uk/universityofwarwick/aspx/Home .
