Vinci Construction UK has begun construction on a £16m healthcare project in Henley-on-Thames for Amber Solutions for Care (ASC).
Townlands Community Hospital, close to the town centre, will include a new community hospital, a care home, plus retirement and elderly care accommodation.
As project sponsors, ASC has been appointed by NHS Property Services to provide finance, design, build and maintenance services. Vinci will act as principal contractor for the 2.36 hectare development and also provide maintenance for 25 years.
The new hospital will, in part, be funded through the release of excess land and buildings for development of 44 assisted-living residencies and 12 key worker residences.
Construction of the hospital began last month and is expected to take two years to complete.
Vinci will also design and build the 64-bed care home under a separate £6.1m contract for Oxfordshire County Council.
Vinci Construction UK operations director Alan Oliver said: “Bringing the project to this stage has been challenging and taken a great deal of coordination between ourselves, Amber Infrastructure Limited, the NHS and other stakeholders. I am, however, delighted that the result has enabled us to provide and maintain excellent health and social care facilities for residents and patients in Henley.

ASC bid director Mike Leto added: “The Townlands project makes excellent use of NHS estate to deliver an integrated health campus that will meet both existing and future health requirements of the community in a commercially sustainable manner.”
