Morgan Sindall has recruited Nick Fletcher from Laing O’Rourke to be its new managing director of civil engineering.
He is taking overall responsibility for Morgan Sindall’s Infrastructure, Tunnelling and Utility Services businesses. The managing directors of these businesses will now report directly to Mr Fletcher, who will also have responsibility for the company’s Aviation business.
A chartered civil engineer and graduate of the University of Ulster, Mr Fletcher joins from Laing O’Rourke, where he was operations director of its Infrastructure division. Before that, he was managing director of Laing O’Rourke Ireland.
He reports directly to Graham Shennan, managing director of the Construction division that contributed more than £1bn revenues last year to parent Morgan Sindall Group plc.

Current schemes for which he will now be taking on responsibility at Morgan Sindall include the £290m A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road and the £44m renewal of Manchester Victoria railway station.
The Utility Services business is on National Grid’s Electricity Alliance Central (EAC) framework, upgrading the UK’s electrical transmission infrastructure as part of a five year agreement which runs until March 2017.
The Tunnelling business of Morgan Sindall, as part of joint venture MVB, has now completed the primary tunnelling works on the Lee Tunnel project for Thames Water. Secondary lining works and the installation of pumps and associated equipment is now underway. The east London project is worth more than £208m to Morgan Sindall.
