Queens Park Rangers’ plans to build a new stadium and 24,000 homes at Old Oak Common have the backing of local people, with 89% of consultation responses supporting the scheme.

In September, the club launched consultation on the plan to deliver a new stadium as well as 24,000 homes and community facilities at the under-used site.

The consultation generated nearly 3,000 responses. In total, 2,524 agreed with QPR’s vision for Old Oak while 302 (11%) said they disagreed. There were similar results for the choice of Old Oak as the location for the new stadium, with 88% in support.

Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes said: “We need to move on from Loftus Road if we are to sustain a top-flight football club and Old Oak Common is the only realistic place for us to move – close to our fans and our roots, with great transport links, and the opportunity to be at the heart of the most exciting new development in west London for years.

“Old Oak is the biggest regeneration since the Olympics and we have a responsibility to future generations to get it right. We need a comprehensive planned approach with a stadium as its beating heart, led by a football club with a stronger interest in the local community than any other kind of business.”

The Old Oak regeneration area is in excess of 300 acres in size and QPR’s team controls over 100 acres in this area. A new 40,000-seat, multi-purpose stadium will be a focal point for Old Oak regeneration.
