BAM Construction has been named preferred contractor for the £90m third and final phase of Ballymore Properties’ Snowhill development in Birmingham.

Three Snowhill is expected to start on site in September having now secured planning consent. It forms part of Birmingham’s 20-year master plan for redeveloping the Snowhill area known as 'Vision 2030'.

BAM will remodel the existing five levels of basement and cores that serve all three phases, creating office, leisure and conference space and car parking. Above ground there will be a steel-framed office tower with curtain walling to all elevations with 17 levels of office space and two levels of plant room.

The fully curtain-walled 32,000 m2 development is targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating under the 2014 regulations and an EPC rating of at least B.

Three Snowhill is expected to complete by March 2018.

The concept architect is Sidell Gibson and project architect is Weedons. WSP is the structural engineers, Arup is building services engineer and Gleeds is the project surveyor.

BAM has appointed Paul Avery, the man who recently led the major refurbishment of the National Indoor (now Barclaycard) Arena, as project manager for the scheme.

BAM construction director Dave Ellis said “This is a signature project for Birmingham and its commercial appeal. It is a challenging construction scheme, Snowhill has premium quality clients and it demands a premium quality approach from its construction partners. We’re very much looking forward to starting on site and making it happen.”

Ballymore project director Richard Probert said: “Three Snowhill has now been awarded detailed planning consent and we look forward to starting on site shortly. It is the final component in what has become a land mark gateway development for our city – changing the skyline and setting new standards for regional office development.”
